ANOTHER WINTER STORM
It’s a cold start to the day, and we’re gearing up for some tricky weather as a winter storm heads our way. Clouds are taking over as we prepare for what will be a big impact weather event across New England tonight into Sunday.
A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect tonight and lasts through Sunday night for most of Massachusetts (excluding the Cape and Islands). This will bring a mix of snow, sleet, and ice that could create some hazardous travel conditions. For northern New England, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued, with some areas expecting more than 6 inches of snow.
Snow will start moving in from west to east between 4 PM and 8 PM. It will snow through the night, with some of us waking up to several inches of snow by Sunday morning. By sunrise, temperatures will start to warm enough for the snow to switch over to a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and rain in some locations, creating very slippery conditions. Roads will be slick, and travel could become dangerous, so plan accordingly.
The storm will continue through Sunday night, keeping travel messy throughout the day. With the additional threat of ice accumulation, power outages will be a concern, especially in areas that see more ice than snow.
As the storm winds down, there’s still a lingering threat for icy spots. The precipitation will freeze overnight, leading to some black ice early Monday.
NEXT WEEK
The winds will pick up significantly Monday, and a High Wind Watch has been issued for the day, with gusts possibly reaching up to 60 mph. These strong winds could lead to additional power outages and more dangerous conditions.
Next week will stay cool and breezy, but another winter storm is already on the horizon. Next Thursday, we’ll be tracking another chance for snow, so winter is far from over.
Be sure to stay updated on your forecast and take extra precautions this weekend. Stay safe, stay warm, and we’ll keep you informed as this storm unfolds!
