Weather Alert: Multi-day storm brewing

DRY BEFORE THE STORM

It’s a dry and quiet start to the day across the region, but don’t let the calm fool you—big changes are on the way.

Today will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures climbing into the mid 60s. While it stays dry for now, this is a good window to get outside or take care of any storm preparations before conditions begin to deteriorate.

Be sure to clear leaves and debris from storm drains to help prevent flooding in your neighborhood. If you have Halloween decorations or loose patio items, secure them before the winds pick up. And don’t forget to download the Boston 25 Weather App so you can stay updated as the storm progresses.

COASTAL STORM

We’re tracking a powerful coastal storm that will impact much of New England from Sunday through Tuesday. This system is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and coastal concerns, particularly from Sunday night into Monday.

A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday evening. For Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, a High Wind Watch has been issued for Sunday evening through Monday evening. The Cape is also under a Wind Advisory during the same time frame.

Rain will move in from south to north during the day on Sunday, becoming heavier overnight. The worst of the storm will hit between Sunday night and Monday, bringing the potential for 1 to 3 inches of rain, wind gusts up to 55 mph, and the risk of coastal flooding and beach erosion.

The storm will gradually move out on Tuesday, with drier air returning and sunshine making a comeback by midweek.

END OF NEXT WEEK

Expect cooler temperatures to close out the week with dry weather as fall settles back in across the region.
