WEATHER ALERT
It’s a brutal start to the day — the coldest temperatures we’ve seen so far this season. Wind chills early this morning are downright dangerous, prompting Extreme Cold Warnings for much of the interior where it can feel as cold as 30 below zero. Across eastern Massachusetts, Cold Weather Advisories are in effect for wind chills down to 20 below zero. These alerts expire at 1 PM, but it will stay cold all day long.
Despite the sunshine, don’t let looks fool you. Afternoon highs only climb into the teens, and a stiff breeze will keep it feeling colder than that. For anyone heading out on the water, freezing spray is another hazard to watch today as arctic air pours over the relatively warmer ocean. Bottom line: bundle up — especially if you have Super Bowl plans tonight.
THIS WEEK
Monday doesn’t bring much of a warmup. It’ll be another frigid start, but we do rebound a bit during the afternoon with highs reaching the 20s under mostly sunny skies.
We’re also keeping an eye on a weak system arriving Tuesday evening. This one looks minor, bringing light snow that tapers off overnight into early Wednesday. Snow totals should range from a coating to up to 2″, making this more of a nuisance event than a major storm.
By Wednesday, temperatures finally moderate, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 30s. The rest of the week looks quiet — at least for now. As always, we’ll be watching what’s next.
