Boston 25 Weather

Snowy Saturday

WEATHER ALERT

We’re starting the day with snow falling across the region, and that’s already leading to slippery travel and reduced visibility this morning. Snow continues through the day, with the heaviest totals focused on the North Shore, where 6–10″ of snow is possible. That area is under a Winter Storm Warning through 7 PM.

Outside of the warning area, much of eastern Massachusetts is under a Winter Weather Advisory, with 3–6″ of accumulation expected. Snow stays fairly steady through the afternoon before tapering off this evening.

EXTREME COLD

Once the snow winds down, the bigger story quickly becomes the cold. Temperatures will plunge overnight, dropping into the single digits and even below zero in spots. Add in gusty winds of 30–40 mph, and it’s going to feel downright brutal. Wind chills early Sunday morning will run 20 to 30 degrees below zero.

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for central and western Massachusetts and much of New Hampshire, while eastern Massachusetts is under a Cold Weather Advisory. This is dangerous cold, especially for anyone spending time outdoors.

Sunday stays frigid. High temperatures only reach the teens, and with the wind, it will feel colder all day. If you’re planning to head out to watch the Patriots in the Super Bowl, make sure you bundle up and dress in layers.

NEXT WEEK

The cold hangs on into Monday morning, with temperatures still well below freezing. Looking ahead, our next chance for snow arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday, with a round of light snow on the way. We’ll keep tracking that system and fine-tuning the details.

Stay safe out there and take it slow on the roads today.
