WEATHER ALERT: SHOWERS TODAY
Sunday starts on a cool, cloudy, and dry note across Boston and much of southern New England. It’s the kind of gray morning that feels calm before the changes ahead. Showers will begin to creep in after midday, and by around 4 to 5 PM we’ll see some pockets of steadier rain. Amounts stay light—less than a quarter inch—but with so many people traveling today, roads may still be slick, so it’s worth taking it slow. Showers taper later tonight as temperatures slip back into the 30s.
ON YOUR RADAR: COASTAL STORM TUESDAY
Monday brings a brighter sky, though a cooler one, as highs only reach the low 40s. It’s simply the setup for a more significant system poised to arrive Tuesday. A developing coastal storm will spread snow and a wintry mix across New England, and this one has the potential to create widespread travel disruptions from morning through evening.
Interior higher elevations stand to see the most snow, with totals up to about seven inches. Closer to the coast—including the 128 corridor—snow amounts drop into the one-to-three-inch range, mixing at times with sleet and rain for a slushier outcome. Along the immediate coastline and across the South Shore, expect only a coating to an inch, with more rain than snow. The Cape and Islands will stay on the rainy side of the storm altogether. With precipitation lasting much of the day, both commutes will be affected.
By Wednesday, sunshine returns, but colder air settles in for the remainder of the week. Friday will not escape the freezing mark at all, with highs stuck in the upper 20s. And as we head toward next weekend, we’re already keeping an eye on the potential for yet another storm system.
