Boston 25 Weather

Hurricane Erin will pass by tonight

TRACKING ERIN

Hurricane Erin will pass over 200 miles off the coast of Massachusetts tonight. Southern New England will NOT see direct impacts like rain or tropical or hurricane force winds. It will see blustery and wavy conditions which peak today and tonight.

The forecast will remain partly cloudy with below average highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s locally. Clouds will be thickest across southeastern MA.

The northeast breeze will increasing this afternoon, leading to a WIND ADVISORY for Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard. Gusts up to 45 mph could cause some widely scattered wind damage through Friday midday.

COASTAL HAZARDS

Plan on high surf and dangerous rip currents through at least Saturday. The largest waves, 10-20 feet, will come through this afternoon and tonight. The Vineyard and Nantucket are expected to see the biggest swells, minor coastal flooding, and significant beach and dune erosion.

WEEKEND WARMING

Although the local beaches may stay too dangerous for swimmers to go into the water this weekend, it will be beautiful from the sand! Plan on highs in the 80s again Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It will be bright with clouds increasing late this weekend, leading to our next chance for rain Sunday night or Monday.
