FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Just three days since he interviewed on Thursday, Mike Vrabel has been hired as the New England Patriots head coach.

The team made the hiring official on Sunday after interviewing several candidates following the abrupt firing of first-year head coach Jerod Mayo.

Vrabel, a former three-time Super Bowl-winning linebacker with the Patriots, will be tasked with turning around a team that finished 4-13 in the 2024 season.

New England ranked in the bottom half of the league in most major offensive and defensive categories, so Vrabel and whatever coordinators he chooses to either bring (or keep) will have their work cut out for them.

Despite the Pats disappointing 2024 campaign, they currently own the #4 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and ample cap space to improve a roster in need of a talent injection at multiple positions, including wide receiver, offensive line, and defensive line.

Vrabel’s most recent head coaching experience was with the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2023, where he compiled a 54-45 record, including 3 playoff appearances, an AFC Championship Game appearance, and an AP Coach of the Year award in the 2021-22 NFL season.

During the 2024 season, Vrabel was a coaching and personnel consultant for the Cleveland Browns.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
