GREENFIELD, Mass. — A Westfield man’s body was recovered Friday afternoon after he passed away in a workplace accident in Greenfield.
According to the Northwestern District Attorney, the man, a 66-year-old resident of Westfield, had fallen into a silo in a work site off of Cleveland Street.
The work site was used to mix dry ingredients for cement.
Co-workers of the 66-year-old said that the man climbed the top of the cement silo. Workers noticed that the man appeared missing after not answering calls from his radio.
Members of the Greenfield Fire and Police Department, alongside mutual aid from other companies, responded to the site at 8:54 AM to assist in the rescue call.
However, “as of 10:15am the rescue has been turned into a recovery effort.” The fire department wrote on their Facebook.
