One person rescued, another still missing after boat capsizes off Salisbury

SALISBURY, Mass. — One person was rescued and another is missing after a boat capsized off Salisbury on Saturday.

According to the State Police, around 4 p.m., they were alerted to a boat that had capsized off Salisbury Beach.

Members of the Coast Guard, State Police’s Air Wing and Marine units, Newburyport Police, Fire, and the Local Harbor Master worked together to search for the boaters.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the 47-foot boat had left the Salisbury Marina. Once in the water, the vessel began to sink.

U.S. Coast Guard was able to rescue the owner of the boat and transport him to a Boston Hospital via medical helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second person who was on the boat, a man in his 50s, currently remains unaccounted for at this time.

State Police say that due to adverse weather conditions, rescue and recovery efforts have been put on hold. State Police Field Patrols will remain on land to survey the water.

Mutual aid is being provided by the U.S. Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, Newbury Police and Fire, Salisbury Police, Salisbury Fire, Salisbury Harbormaster, and Atlantic Ambulance.
