‘Unimaginable loss’: Family mourns 13-year-old boy killed in e-bike crash in Stoneham

STONEHAM, Mass. — The family of a 13-year-old boy killed in an e-bike crash in Stoneham is speaking out.

Police say Parker Robles was riding his e-bike on Royal Street Friday evening when he collided with a car making a turn. The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., just after sunset.

Robles’ aunt shared a brief statement, saying Parker was deeply loved. She also thanked the community for its outpouring of support during this difficult time.

“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from our community. Parker was so loved. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn this unimaginable loss,” Chelsea Chagnon told Boston 25 News in an email.

The driver involved — a 73-year-old man — remained at the scene and has not been charged.

The tragic accident has prompted Stoneham’s police chief to warn parents about the dangers of riding e-bikes unsafely. In response to several complaints received in the last 24 hours, the police department is increasing patrols to monitor unsafe e-bike riding.

“Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the boy involved in this terrible tragedy,” said Chief James O’Connor. “The last thing we want is for anyone else to get hurt.”

Bedford Public Schools Superintendent Cliff Chuang provided the following statment:

Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the death of Parker Robles, a student at John Glenn Middle School, who died yesterday in a tragic crash. We have been in communication with Parker’s family, who are grateful for the support they have received from the community.

Counselors will be available on Monday for students and staff at John Glenn Middle School and at Lane Elementary School, where Parker’s brother goes to school. Principals of those two schools have shared additional information with families and staff about the supports available. If you have questions or need support, please reach out to your child’s counselor or principal. We join with the Robles family and friends in mourning this tragic loss.

Given these circumstances, the November 25th school committee meeting has been canceled, and the agenda for that meeting will be moved to December 9th.

With sadness,
