Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Mass. with threats of wind, flooding, tornado

SEVERE STORM WARNINGS 2

DEDHAM, Mass. — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued in parts of Massachusetts as storms are set to bring damaging winds, flooding, and a tornado.

This watch is in effect for Middlesex, Suffolk, Worcester, Norfolk and Essex Counties until 6:00 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Areas that are likely to be affected include Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, Lynn, Newton, Lawrence, Somerville, Framingham, Waltham, Malden, Brookline, Medford, Revere, Peabody, Arlington, Everett, Salem, Billerica, Beverly, and Woburn.

Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Worcester counties are in a severe thunderstorm watch through 8 p.m.

A confirmed tornado was spotted over Holden earlier Saturday afternoon, as warnings remain in effect for Middlesex and Worcester counties through 4:45 pm.

Boston 25 News Meteorologist Tucker Antico warned that the peak of the storms is expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The North Shore and Boston have a chance to see rain after dark, but storms will have weakened at this point.

Temperatures in the mid-80s and humid conditions will fuel an afternoon front, packing the ingredients for summer storms west and north of Boston.

“Wind and flooding are my greatest concerns, and you heard me mention tornado, and it is a day where although it is a low threat, it’s very much there,” said Antico during his Saturday morning forecast.

Sunday is shaping up to be drab, with plenty of moisture in the forecast.

Because it will be cooler and less humid, severe weather isn’t a concern, but southern New England is in for cloudy skies and on-and-off showers.
