Seven people hospitalized after large truck crashes into Job Corps building in Devens

DEVENS, Mass. — Seven people were hospitalized and several more injured after a large flatbed truck crashed through the Shriver Job Corps building in Devens.

Massachusetts State Police say the truck slammed into the building on the Shriver Job Corps campus on Jackson Road around 10:30 a.m.

“I honestly thought at first it was an earthquake at first because obviously everything was shaking,” said Marcus Carter, a student at Job Corps.

The driver of the truck and six other people at the site were taken to nearby hospitals.

The large truck carrying a red box could be seen buried about halfway into the lobby of a building.

Devens Fire Chief Timothy Kelly said six other people were also treated at the scene but did not need to be taken to a hospital.

Job Corps is a federally funded education and training school for 16 to 24-year-olds who are in poverty and endured hardships like abuse and homelessness.

“I was just in math class and I was talking with my friends and we felt a vibration on the floor and the windows, the windows starting to shake and I look across the classroom and there’s a window and all I seen is a truck just zoom right by it and I heard a loud crash,” said Carter.

Some of the injured were young students and were enrolled in Job Corps, according to Chief Kelly.

Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
