BOSTON — Orange Line service has resumed in the area of Tufts Medical Center after a small fire broke out on the track on Saturday morning.
The fire, which occurred in a third rail insulator, was quickly extinguished following a response from the fire department.
The MBTA temporarily suspended service in the affected area while personnel worked to repair the damaged track.
During the incident, power to the third rail was shut off to prevent further complications. Once repairs were completed, the third rail was safely re-energized, and Orange Line service returned to its regular schedule.
The MBTA apologized for the interruption in service and assured riders that operations have returned to normal.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
