OFFICIAL: Boston’s First 80-Degree Day of 2025!

SNE Highs 4/19/25

Boston achieved an uncommon feat this Saturday as warm weather surged through the region. It all began with high temperatures that managed to reach the low to mid 80s across much of the region! Though it came with a breeze, this wind is what propelled the warm air northward in the first place. We even had an added boost thanks to downsloping - when air rises over hills & mountains, warming further on its way back down again.

Here’s what really interesting about today. Boston’s previous high temperature for the year was only 69 degrees (April 11th). After reaching 80 degrees today, it becomes just the 2nd time in 20 years that the city experienced an 80-degree day before the first 70-degree day! Why have spring when you can have summer!?

May 1st is our current average for the first 80-degree day of the year, so today’s warmth would be considered to have arrived “early.” However, eight of the last ten years have seen the 80-degree weather arrive “late.” Today’s high helps to balance that out.
