WAREHAM, Mass. — A Wareham man is facing numerous charges after leading police on a weekend pursuit in the coastal Massachusetts town, police said Monday.

Lovell Johnson, 35, was arrested and charged with “various motor vehicle violations” and resisting arrest, Wareham Police Sgt. Bryan Whalen said in a statement on Monday.

On Feb. 1, at approximately 4:52 p.m., a Wareham officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop with a white sedan on Minot Avenue.

The driver, later identified Johnson, failed to stop and led officers on a pursuit throughout the Wareham and Onset sections of town, Whalen said.

Officers used tire deflation devices along the road to stop the white sedan, but that didn’t deter Johnson.

“Johnson continued to operate the vehicle erratically even with deflated tires,” Whalen said.

The vehicle eventually became disabled and stopped in the Onset section of town.

Johnson got out of the vehicle and led officers on a brief foot pursuit, and he was soon taken into custody without incident, Whalen said.

Johnson was expected to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on Monday.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
