Josh Kraft to officially launch Boston mayoral campaign tomorrow

BOSTON — Josh Kraft will be running as a Democrat against incumbent Mayor Michelle Wu — also a Democrat.

He officially filed paperwork last week to run for Mayor of Boston.

In a video published Monday, Kraft gave a glance at his vision for city’s future. He mentions his top priority is to lower the cost of housing — by constructing more housing, along with helping middle class families who are struggling to gain ground because of it.

While Kraft is the son of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, he served as the president of the New England Patriots Foundation and led many of his family’s philanthropic initiatives.

He also invested 30 years with the Boys and Girls Club of Boston and leads one of the area’s top civil rights groups.

Kraft will be Mayor Wu’s first challenger this fall.

When asked on GBH last week about Kraft as her competition, Mayor Wu said, “You’re going to have to speak for yourself and not just have the consultants do it for you and be clear about what you’re putting forward.”

Kraft will officially announce his campaign for mayor at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dorchester.
