Incident in hotel room at Foxwoods Resort Casino prompts massive police response

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — An incident in a hotel room at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut on Monday morning prompted a massive police response, officials said.

Connecticut State Police troopers and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Police officers were involved in a “law enforcement situation” in a Fox Tower hotel room for hours.

Details on the exact nature of the incident weren’t immediately released, fueling chatter of a “hostage situation” on social media, but MPTN police said the rumor was unfounded.

“Law enforcement are managing a situation in a Fox Tower hotel room involving an individual believed to have unlawfully restrained two people before quickly releasing them earlier this morning. Reports of a hostage situation are incorrect. We urge against the spreading of unverified information,” MPTN police said.

In an afternoon update, MPTN police announced that the incident at Fox Tower had been “safely resolved.”

“An earlier incident at Fox Tower has been safely resolved. Our team was able to enter the room without incident,” MPTN police said. “We thank members of our Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Police Department and the joint efforts of local and state agencies for their professionalism and quick action to resolve this matter.”

There was no word on whether anyone was facing charges in connection with the incident.

Video shared with Boston 25 News showed several state police, MPTN, and Ledyard police cruisers parked outside the Fox Tower entrance, blocking access to the area.

Foxwoods has two hotel towers on property, the Fox and Grand Pequot, as well as the Great Cedar Hotel.

In a statement, Foxwoods said, “We would like to thank the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Police Department, Connecticut State Police, local authorities and all agencies that played a part in safely resolving this situation. Normal operations on the property have resumed.”
