BOSTON — Authorities recently identified the victim of a decades-old murder in Boston Harbor using advanced genetic services.

According to Boston Police, Toussaint Gonsalves was found stabbed to death near Thompson Island on December 4, 1991.

For 33 years, Gonsalves identity was unknown. The FBI utilized DNA analysis with traditional publicly accessible genealogical services to identify the victim.

Authorities learned Gonsalves was born on October 2, 1970 and attended the former Boston High School. Police say he may have been living in Newton or Dorchester at the time and also may have been employed working in a kitchen.

Gonsalves was described as 5′11″, 225lbs with shirt cropped brown hair and brown eyes. He was also wearing a heavy grey multi-colored knit sweater and a blue, white and green rugby shirt, black pants over red running shorts, and two pairs of black socks and black high-top sneakers at the time of his murder. Similarly, authorities say he had three scars on his left hand and his eyebrow appeared to have been shaved.

Two pictures created by the FBI Laboratory show what Gonsalves may have looked like.

The Boston Police Department’s Unsolved Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case.

Anyone with information about this individual is urged to contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
