Five homes damaged, two destroyed, after massive fire in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Mass. — Five multi-family homes were damaged in a massive fire in Lawrence Tuesday night.

The fire began on Lowell Street early Tuesday evening.

Lawrence Fire Chief Patrick Delaney said in a press conference that two of the homes damaged in the blaze are expected to be a complete loss.

All the residents of the homes were able to safely escape the flames.

Video shared with Boston 25 News showed flames leaping from several buildings.

Smoke poured out over Lowell Street as firefighters doused the area with water.

Multiple firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.

Delaney said about 20 people are displaced but there are no reports of any injuries.

The fire chief detailed that firefighters were able to search through four of the five impacted properties and that by then everyone had already made it out safely.

Firefighters used thousands of feet of hose line to get enough water on the burning homes and saved other neighboring properties in the tightly packed neighborhood

The Lawrence Police Department took to social media to ask residents to steer clear of the area.

“Your cooperation is essential to ensure the safety of both responders and the public,” Lawrence police said.

The Red Cross is assisting the estimated 20 people who have been displaced by the fire.
