First responders gather at Shrewsbury lake in search for missing man

SHREWSBURY, Mass. — First responders were dispatched to Lake Quinsigamond Sunday afternoon after reports of a missing man.

According to the Shrewsbury Police Department, crews were dispatched at 3:27 PM after reports came in to the 911 dispatch center of a man drowning.

Members of the Shrewsbury Police and Fire Department and Worcester EMS responded to the area and could not locate the man.

Multiple emergency crews are providing mutual aid and assisting local first responders in their search, including members of the Hopkinton, Worcester, and Northborough dive teams.

“We just started hearing the sirens, bunch of police running onto the dock,” said Bryan Louro who was fishing and jet-skiing with friends.

“As soon as I parked my jet-ski,” Maicol Cruz added, “literally two minutes after, all the fire department and people started rolling in.”

“Search efforts have included searches from the shore, surface vessels, divers, underwater drones, and airborne drones from Shrewsbury Police, Berlin Police, Grafton Police and Westborough Police,” Shrewsbury police wrote.

Police added that as of 8:45 PM, the man has not been located yet.

“I feel really bad for the family,” Cruz said. “It’s kind of shocking, because it’s something that never really typically happens around here.”
