BOSTON — A Boston man known as “Dog Bite” pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Thursday in the fatal stabbing of 48-year-old Urvin Gerald that was caught on video in Dorchester in 2022.
Dwight Watson, 58, will be sentenced on Friday in Suffolk Superior Court, according to the district attorney’s office. Gerald’s family members are expected to deliver victim impact statements.
On Jan. 27, 2023, U.S. Marshals arrested Watson on a murder warrant in Ohio, months after the Dorchester stabbing in July 2022.
Members of the Boston Police Fugitive Unit then went to Ohio for the rendition of Watson, police said.
Opening statements and testimony before a jury in the murder trial began on Wednesday.
On July 16, 2022, just after 1 a.m., police responded to the Mount Horeb Lodge in the area of 110 Harvard St. in Dorchester.
When officers arrived, they found Gerald suffering from a stab wound. He was sent to Boston Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Surveillance video captured the deadly stabbing, prosecutors said.
Investigators learned that there had been a fight between the victim and Watson, also known as “Dog Bite,” who was a regular attendee at the lodge.
Lodge security separated Watson and Gerald after the fight and Watson was escorted out of the facility, according to the district attorney’s office.
About 30 minutes later, Gerald exited the rear of the lodge. In the parking area, Watson suddenly appeared and stabbed Gerald in the neck, and then fled, prosecutors said.
Investigators soon learned that Watson had left Massachusetts, and months later, U.S. Marshals arrested Watson in Ohio.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
