Back-to-back Dorchester fires send 2 to hospital, displace 22

BOSTON — Two people were sent to the hospital and 22 people were displaced as Boston Firefighters worked to put out back-to-back fires in Dorchester on Wednesday night.

Firefighters first responded to a fire on Beckett Street. Two people needed to rescued from the second floor of the multi-family home. Both of those people were taken to the hospital, according to officials.

The fire reached a 3rd alarm after flames spread to all three floors of the building.

The Boston Fire Department shared photos showing the back porches of the building completely burned through.

In total, 18 people and several pets were displaced from the fire on Beckett Street.

“I’m glad everybody got out of the fire,” said Angela Fernandes, who witnessed the fire. “The fire was ablaze. It just got so big, it was pretty scary like it was swallowing the house,” Fernandes continued.

Shortly after knocking down the Beckett Street fire, crews noticed that flames spread to a home directly behind it on Dorchester Ave.

4 people were displaced from the Dorchester Ave. fire, according to officials.

No firefighters were injured fighting either fire, according to Boston Fire District Chief Sean Coppney.

“The companies on the ground did a great job,” Said Coppney. “We didn’t lost anybody, so we’re happy,” Coppney continued.

Neighbors tell Boston 25 News that they did hear a big boom before the fire broke out, but the cause of the first fire is still under investigation.
