DORCHESTER, Mass. — A Dorchester mother said she was waiting 6 hours Wednesday without answers after her 6-year-old son never came home on the school bus.
Edian Baez told Boston 25 her son Samuel attends the Codman Academic Charter School on Washington Street. He takes the bus every day.
In Spanish, she explained that she was waiting at the bus stop close to her home Wednesday afternoon.
According to her bus tracker, she said the driver made a wrong turn.
She contacted the school allegedly, who said the boy wasn’t let off his stop because there was no adult present. Ediana said that the claim was false, and he was at a different stop.
Baez said she was waiting in the area of the bus stop with her 3-year-old daughter until 7 pm. After calling the school department multiple times, she said she had to contact a supervisor, and eventually the police.
Eventually, police and school officials were able to locate the bus, its driver, and the boy inside in Brighton.
Boston 25 crews on the scene caught the active investigation on camera Wednesday night.
Baez said she was able to finally pick up her son Wednesday night around 10 pm.
Boston Public Schools claimed the driver got lost Wednesday and the bus ran out of fuel with the boy inside. They claim the driver did not follow protocol, and once they located the bus and the child, they immediately contacted those involved.
Baez claimed her son was without food or water in the bus for hours, exposed to freezing temperatures.
She told Boston 25 Friday that she and her son have been unable to eat or sleep properly over the last few days.
Boston Public Schools told us they aren’t able to provide more details on the situation, as they’re actively investigating the situation – citing the safety of their students as their top priority.
